Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day to day. 1 Chronicles 16:23
Does your life sing, right where you are currently planted in His sovereignty, from day to day?
I have been able to attend the last two Boyce College dorm meetings. Dorm meetings are a gathering of the entire student body, and basically entail a one-hour worship service with singing/teaching/prayer. Both meetings I attended have offered a message from local pastors with a strong exhortation on “bloom where you are planted”. That’s wisdom. Because Boyce is a place where many are preparing for pastoral ministry or perhaps missions, one can easily imagine how BIG DREAMS might overtake reality, certainly overtaking the immediacy of such from a Biblical perspective.
Of course students are not the only ones that struggle with dreaming BIG dreams. Over the years, I have noticed a corollary between being “fired up for Christ” and, more often than not, a wholly disconnected reality of BIG dreams; specifically, how such dreams are most likely to come about in His timing through steps of increasing faithfulness. Sadly, the testimony of such dreamers is often vaporous to a lost and watching world who are within their sphere of immediate connectivity. Words ring hollow.
The Biblical principle and antidote for BIG dreams is simple and direct,
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:21
I know a man locally who is the son of a Pastor. As the son tells the story, his father was always about growing the church and doing bigger and better things for the Lord, with a maybe even overseas missions adder. And then my acquaintance recalls, “Never once in all of my upbringing did Dad read us kids the Bible, or lead our family in devotions. Not once.” Our God will not be mocked.
Certainly pray BIG dreams within the reality of His will for your life! But please oh please, get to work right where He has planted you today. That garden spot will determine your faithfulness and whether or not you are fit and rightly qualified for the BIG stuff.
